First Day in Croatia

From first glimpse the city of Zagreb has some unique differences from most metropolitan cities in the U.S. Stepping off the train I felt surrounded by the history and rich culture that makes Zagreb a wonderful place to discover and explore. While the centuries old buildings are each a unique treasure in their own right, it was the stark differences in the layout of Zagreb that struck me as being most different. It was a culture shock to not see the downtown streets cluttered with SUV’s, waiting in droves at each traffic light for their chance to go. Instead, the streets of Zagreb are filled with Croats and tourists alike walking, biking, and perhaps most different to me riding the tram. Most of the roads in Zagreb were not constructed solely for the use of cars but instead are equipped with a system of rails with different electric trams zipping by every few seconds.
